2009 Juried Biennial

Dec. 14, 2008 - Feb. 7, 2009

orange and blue paintingThe William D. Cannon Art Gallery completed selections for the "2009 Juried Biennial Exhibition," featuring works in all media by artists who live, work or have a studio in San Diego County. The Juried Biennial Exhibition takes place every two years; in the intervening year, four artists from the Biennial are showcased in an exhibition entitled the Cannon Art Gallery Invitational.

The Biennial attracted 270 artists who submitted more than 1200 images for this year’s competition. The 2009 jurors for the Biennial were Stephen Hepworth, Curator of the University Art Gallery, University of California, San Diego, and Sue Greenwood, Gallery Director of Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach. They selected 46 works of art by 26 artists, including 12 North County residents (six of whom come from Carlsbad). Ten artists have had works in previous juried exhibitions at the gallery, while 16 are being shown here for the first time. The exhibition contained a wide spectrum of media, including painting, lithography, photography, assemblage, installation, furniture and ceramics.
