Large-scale disasters may exceed the resources of any single city or fire or law enforcement agency. Mutual aid shared between response agencies fills this gap.
Regional collaboration in a large scale emergency
The City of Carlsbad is a member of the Unified San Diego County Emergency Services Organization, governed by the Unified Disaster Council. Benefits of membership include: access to regional equipment, planning and grant funds and participation in regional training and exercises.
Regional equipment and capabilities funded through the Unified Disaster Council and other agencies include:
- Firefighting aircraft
- Regional communications network and dispatch systems
- Regional shelter supply caches
- Mass casualty units and mass decontamination units
- San Diego Regional Terrorism Threat Assessment Center
