Waiting list

***EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2005, THE WAITING LIST IS CLOSED***

Due to decreases in federal funding, the Carlsbad Housing Agency is no longer accepting applications for the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.  Notice of the waiting list reopening will be done via internet, newspaper and the local media.

Applicants who are currently active on Carlsbad's waiting list will remain on the list.  Applicants will be contacted when funding is available.

NOTE:  We do not have emergency housing.  Please see emergency housing for more information.

If you are currently living or working in Carlsbad and have an active waiting list application, please refer to Eligibility for more information on qualifications.

Updating waiting list information

If you are currently on the Section 8 waiting list for Carlsbad, you are required to:

  • Notify the Carlsbad Housing Agency in writing of any changes in family composition, income and/or mailing address; and
  • Respond to any request for information or attend a scheduled appointment.  Failure to comply may result in the applicant’s name being removed from the waiting list.

To update a waiting list application, see Waiting List Update Form.

Waiting list update forms are also available at the housing office or call 760-434-2810 to have an update form mailed.

Transferring waiting list application

You may transfer your section 8 waiting list application to Carlsbad if:

  • You applied with another housing agency within San Diego County on or before September 30, 2005; and
  • You are currently working or living in the City of Carlsbad.

An applicant must contact the Housing Agency where they originally applied and request that a copy of the application be sent to Carlsbad's Housing office.  Carlsbad will honor the original application date.  Those living outside of San Diego County who would like to sign up for Section 8 should contact their local housing agency.  For a list of all housing agencies, contact HUD.
