The Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department is a proud provider of American Red Cross aquatics training programs. Get a head start on a career in aquatics by training to become an authorized water safety instructor or lifeguard.
This course is designed to provide qualified participants with the certifications required for working at swimming pools. Upon completion graduates will receive American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-FPR); Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel; Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Essentials; and Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer (additional information).
Water Safety Instructor
This course is designed to provide training and certification to teach American Red Cross swimming and a variety of related aquatic skills. Emphasis is on class organization. Course length is approximately 30 hours. Prerequisite aquatic skills must be demonstrated on the first day of the class.
This course offers the training and certification for instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and related courses (additional information).
Title 22 Upgrade
This course orients current American Red Cross instructors to teach a class in Title-22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel.
