The power of grandparents: How you can play an important role in preventing prescription drug abuse
Who: The North Coastal Prevention Coalition
When: Thursday, August 14 | 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. | ACT
Prescription Drug Abuse is under-recognized and the nation’s fastest growing drug problem that puts young lives at risk. And grandparents can play a powerful role in preventing this problem. Did you know?
• Prescription drug overdoses cause more deaths than car crashes in the U.S. every year.
• Friends and relatives are the most common source of pain relievers for non-medical use.
• Safe and proper disposal of unused or expired prescription medications can help save lives.
Students from the North Coastal Prevention Youth Coalition will inform attendees about the prescription drug abuse problem and how everyone can play a role in prevention. A Carlsbad Police Officer will pick–up unused or expired medications for proper disposal, and a representative from Vista Community Clinic will speak about medication and alcohol interactions.
The presentation is sponsored by the North Coastal Prevention Coalition (NCPC), which has been working for over 20 years to reduce the harm of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs in the cities of Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista through community action, education, support and collaboration. NCPC is a non-profit organization that began in 1993 and is fiscally managed by the Vista Community Clinic.
