Officer Travis Lambert was teamed up with his partner Duke, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois, in January 2009 after Duke’s original handler, Steve Thomas, was promoted to sergeant.
Duke excels in all areas of police canine work but particularly enjoys searches; he usually finds articles in just seconds. Duke’s favorite toy is his Kong and will eat any treat put in front of him! When not working, Duke likes to sun bathe and play catch with a tennis ball. Duke loves to be petted by Officer Lambert’s wife and will nudge her to remind her to keep petting him.
A dedicated employee, Duke can’t wait to get back to work; anytime Officer Lambert comes to Duke’s kennel in uniform, Duke starts jumping and spinning around in circles anticipating another day on the job.
Police canines are important members of the department – when Duke broke off a tooth during a training exercise, the department had it replaced with a titanium implant to keep Duke in top working condition.
